Describing a book item from scratch, field by field, is a lengthy task — especially when the cataloging data already exists elsewhere. Upon request, it is possible to enable the Z3950 protocol, which connects the Objects section directly to OPAC SBN.

The functionality is designed to fit seamlessly into the usual workflow: from the main panel of the record, click on the book-shaped icon to open a search interface integrated into Pimcore, then type in the title of the publication to be cataloged.

Once the correct edition is found among the results, simply select it from the "Action" column to automatically generate the descriptive record, pre-filled with the cataloging data retrieved from the OPAC. From there, you can edit it as you would with any other record, adding missing information or details specific to your archive.

The advantage is twofold: it speeds up the cataloging of book items and reduces the risk of transcription errors, as the data arrives pre-validated from the national catalog instead of being re-entered manually.

The complete guide to the feature, with screenshots of each step, is in the Z3950 Protocol section of the documentation.

Anyone managing large digital archives knows the problem well: hundreds of files to reorganize, scattered across different folders, not always contiguous. Moving them one by one using drag & drop quickly becomes impractical.

For these cases, the Media section provides the advanced Search & Move feature: navigate to the destination folder, right-click, Advanced → Search & Move, and a search interface opens covering the entire Media section.

The search can be refined by keyword and format type — image, archive, audio, document, folder, text, video — to quickly isolate only the required items, even when they are not in consecutive positions in the tree structure. The items found are selected using the checkboxes in the "Selection" column and appear in real time in the "Your selection" area; alternatively, you can use multiple selection with Ctrl (Cmd on Mac). Confirming with "Selection", the chosen assets are automatically moved to the destination folder.

This is the same principle that governs bulk tagging operations: from a folder, you can propagate tags to all child media with Apply tags to children, or completely replace existing tagging with Remove and apply tags to children.

For full details — including uploads, versioning, recommended formats for long-term preservation, and METS-ECOMiC export — the reference guide remains the Media section of the documentation.
